The Scotsman went fully compact in August 2004 under the editorship of Iain Martin and then John McGurk.

Working with consultants Palmer Watson and Design Editor Ross Russell I was part of the team that relaunched The Scotsman, which included a new style front page.

The system displays the breadth of content using a distinctive typographic hiearchy. It means the paper can set up as many stories as a broadsheet.
